From baseto wilderness

We're at arrivals with your name on a card — two hours later, boots on. Three days in the Bucegi: mountain trails, traditional food, local legends and campfires filled with live mountain songs. All guided by locals who grew up on these trails. Wild, never reckless.

Explore the Carpathians

The Carpathians hold some of Europe's last wild forests home to brown bears, wolves and lynx, and to shepherds who still make cheese the way their grandparents did. Most travellers never find the way in: there is no counter at the airport, no agency for the wild. So we built a base.

Our story

The mountains were our playground

We grew up in the Bucegi Mountains, and we became a team: Mountain Rescue members, certified mountain guides and ski instructors, trail runners and lifelong mountain lovers. We know the Carpathians beyond the famous landmarks — the quiet trails, the shepherds and their flocks, the remote mountain villages, and the tables where food is still made from what the land provides.

The Carpathians don't need an introduction. Travellers need a way in.

So we built one: Carpathian Base, a place to start — and a team to take you further. Our first base is in the Padina–Peștera Valley, at the heart of the Bucegi. From here we're building a new way to discover the Romanian Carpathians: valley by valley, trail by trail, table by table.
