We meet international travellers at Bucharest airport and take them into the wild Carpathians: guided hikes, foraging, a working sheepfold, wildlife at dawn, long dinners, a campfire with a guitar. Three days later they know a valley by its smells.
There is no counter at the airport for the mountains. People land with boots and enthusiasm and no idea where to start. We are the answer to that: one base, local guides, everything handled from the arrivals gate to the ridge.
Base Bucegi is the first. Făgăraș, Apuseni and Parâng follow, one valley at a time, until Carpathian Base is the reference for exploring the Romanian Carpathians: hiking, nature, local culture and food.

The range, not a resort. 1 500 kilometres of forest, meadow and rock that arc across Romania — bears, wolves, lynx, shepherds who still make cheese the way their grandparents did. The word says where we work and who we answer to: the whole mountain, not one hotel.
The place you set out from and come back to. Not a “tour”, not an “adventure”, not an “experience”: a base — beds, guides, a kitchen, a fire, someone who knows where the fog lifts first. Everything we sell is measured from it: two hours up, twenty minutes on foot, back for dinner.

- 01The red band — the base.
Banda roșie: the red stripe that marks a main route in every Romanian mountain range. Laid along the bottom of the square, edge to edge, it is the ground you stand on — Padina, 1 525 m, the beds, the guides, the fire. Every route starts here.
- 02The black triangle — the Carpathians.
The mountain standing on the base, as wide as the square and the band beneath it — and taller than the square it is painted on: its peak rises past the top edge. The range is bigger than any frame we put around it, and it is dark the way the Carpathians are dark — spruce, rock, night. It touches the band with no gap: the mountain begins where the base ends.

Every trail sign in the Carpathians is painted on a white square. Ours is the sign for the place all routes begin. It tells you the same thing a blaze on a rock does: you are on the right way, and someone was here before you.
From base
to wilderness.
That is the whole company in one line, and the sign says it without words: start at the red band, go up through the black mountain. Airport to base, base to ridge, ridge to the wild — and the same way home. In Romanian, on the same sign: de la bază în sălbăticie.
Romanian mountains are written in a four-letter alphabet.
Trails in the Carpathians have been marked since the 1880s. Today every marked route carries one of four shapes, painted flat on a white square, in one of three colours — a system unified across the country and written into law in 2003. The shape says what kind of route you are on; the colour tells routes apart where several share a valley. Simple enough to survive a cold brush and a tired hand, legible in fog at fifty paces.
The system has a sign for every kind of route — and none for the place all of them start from. That gap is our identity. The fifth sign keeps what the other four share: the white square, flat paint, no outline, no shading, and the red of the main route for its band. It breaks one rule on purpose — the mountain is not a shape inside the square but rises above it. A route sign points along the way; ours points up.

On light
One lockup, one line. The sign always sits in line with the wordmark, to its left, and the name is never broken onto two lines. The wordmark is outlined from Bricolage Grotesque Condensed Bold, +3% tracking; cap height 78 on baseline 112, inside the band, 36 from the square. CARPATHIAN takes the surface's ink (spruce on paper, bone on dark); BASE is always trail red — the base, in the colour of the band. The sign never changes.

Spruce-black. The triangle of the sign and the ground of everything we make: the site at night, print, the back of a tee.
Deep spruce. Panels and cards, the second surface on dark. Green, never grey.
Warm bone. Paper, fog, every word set on dark.
Paint white. The square of the sign and the field every blaze is painted on. Nothing else uses it.
Trail-paint red. The band of the sign, the walked path, one action per screen. A signal, never a surface.
Hay amber. Secondary blazes, embers, one warm highlight.
Blaze blue. Secondary blazes only. Never text, never a surface.
Wet limestone. Captions, coordinates, quiet data on dark.
Working ratio: spruce night first, bone paper second, one line of paint. Red is a signal, not a surface — if a screen has two red things, one of them is wrong. Blue and amber exist only inside blazes.

De la aeroport pe creastă
Padina sits at 1 525 m in a glacial valley under the Bucegi plateau. Alpine meadows, limestone walls, and weather that writes the day's plan for you. Ne vedem la bază — ș, ț, ă, î, â render everywhere, or the font is wrong.

Display is always uppercase, condensed and tight — painted-sign energy, set big and left. It is the voice of the sign itself.
Text stays quiet and unstyled; it carries the story and the facts. Mono is reserved for what a ranger writes on a panel: coordinates, altitudes, durations, labels.
Hierarchy is size and case only. No italics for emphasis in display, no letter-spaced body, no fourth voice. All three faces are open-source and carry Romanian diacritics.
The four route signs are our icon system.
Each section of the site owns one blaze in one colour — its bullet, its map pin, its wayfinding mark. Never decorative, always naming a place or a path. Assigned once and kept, like real trails: the signs never swap mid-route. The sign of the company is never used as a section icon.
Our valleys, our frames.
- Only frames from our own valleys — nothing licensed, nothing staged, no stock faces.
- Dawn, dusk, fog and weather beat blue-sky postcards. Muted saturation, a whisper of grain.
- People are photographed doing: guiding, stirring the cauldron, walking. Never posing at the camera.
- Animals from a respectful distance, never baited. A track in the mud beats a zoom.
- Source files at 3 000 px or more on the long edge; nothing under 1 000 px goes larger than a thumbnail.
Plain, warm, specific. Never salesy.
